Marine helicopter has hooked the Liberty Bell 7 spacecraft and appears to have it in tow on July 22, 1961. Minutes later it was released because of the spacecraft being full of sea water after going under once. This was the second U.S. man-in-space flight. It was piloted by astronaut Virgil I. “Gus” Grissom (who did make it out safely). Liberty Bell 7 capsule sank to the bottom of the Atlantic and was not recovered until 1999.
