Portable Power Pumper units (Pacific Marine type N) carried by four Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) members (L to R: Edward Vessel, Russel Widstrom, Sinclair Choan, and Irving Westerberg) on August 2, 1940.
The units weighed 80 pounds, with pack frame. Note the siphon gas hose intake, an idea developed on the Superior National Forest to do away with the original mounted gas tanks which were easily damaged in use and in transit. This pump will throw about 90 gallons of water per minute, shooting a spray above the height of any tree tops, and will handle up to 2500 feet of hose line. If longer hose line than this is needed, additional pumps in a relay system can be used.
